Tooth Decay ("Got Rot?")

Understanding tooth decay — how it starts, why it spreads, and how to stop it before it costs you a tooth.

Tooth decay doesn't fix itself

Tooth decay starts when the bacteria in plaque turn sugar into acid, and the acid eats through enamel. Once decay reaches the inner layers of a tooth, it spreads quickly and can lead to pain, infection, and tooth loss.

The good news is that decay is highly preventable with good home care, fluoride, sealants, and regular cleanings. And when it's caught early, treatment is fast and conservative.

Call (708) 345-3440 if you suspect a cavity — small problems are easier and cheaper to fix.
